Today's rant – Interrupting conversations

I hate it when people interrupt conversations. Now I’m not talking about a third party stepping up and making his way in between you and whomever you are talking to (that’s for a different day). I am referring to people that decide one form of communication is more important than another. Usually this comes in the form of a phone call, whether land line or cell phone. Since when is it ok to put a person on hold that is standing face to face with you, in order to take a phone call? Would you expect me to hang up on someone just because you walked up to talk to me? So then why would you “hang up” our conversation to take a cell phone call? Is there some formal order of importance with different forms of communication? Maybe the order is phone, email, IM, SMS and then finally in-person. Trust me, if they wanted to talk to you, they’ll call back. And on the flip-side, stop taking it so personally when someone doesn’t accept your precious phone call, they’re probably in a face-to-face with someone just as important as you.
