The thumbs are gone
It's been a long, slow, steady progression, but the thumbs are finally gone. When Richard Roeper took over as the main critic on the Ebert and Roeper show all indications were that Roger would be back soon. But before long, Richard stopped introducing his guests as "sitting in for Roger," and instead just introduced them. Then the title of the show dropped the "Ebert and Roeper" part and became just "At the Movies." And now, I think the last remnant of the good old days is gone. Last night's show featured "See it" or "Skip it" instead of thumbs up or thumbs down. With Roger holding the trademark for the thumbs, it surely looks like he won't be coming back. It's too bad, but I hope Roger bounces back and is able to continue on his criticism somewhere else.
